O b s e r v a t i o n s. . .

This is solidly, my opinion, so if you don't agree that's cool, just don't argue.

Somehow, I really don't think I should be defending this story, I don't know why I really feel the need to either. Perhaps when I played I felt this game was superior on so many levels, my expectations were met and exceeded. In the end, I know you can't please everyone, hard to believe though that people could truly be dissapointed in a game like RE4 because of it's lack of story or they felt it could have been better. I've heard complaints about the lack of dialogue as well, which is completely and utterly ridiculous, this RE had the most dialogue compared to other RE's, at leas that's how I saw it. I've heard complaints about there not being zombies and I've heard complaints about this and that and blah blah blah. And you know what? I really don't get it. Okay, so I'm not saying the game is perfect, shit, every game in the world probably could have had more in it, or there was something lacking. The fact is, that this game is trying to reinovate the series, whether it goes downhill from now is questionable considering a lot of the main directors are leaving the series. But before I start ranting on specific issues I'd like to say that the Resident Evil series was never Shakespeare, the plots are generally basic and quite honestly I felt RE4 was not only the longest game in the series but had a good plot going for it that was different and just as indepth, perhaps a bit more on some levels, than some of the other RE's.

I see a lot of issues floating around about the plot, in actuality I think RE2 had one of the best plots and always will, but RE4 really isn't far off. Mikami san new the risk when he revamped the whole game, he wanted it to be different and some people just don't even really recongnize it. But for instance here's one one of the issues dialogue, I heard this froms someone once, that there wasn't enough of it. Quite frankly, I was blown away by that complaint, I think the game had enough dialogue to be honest, and to level, perhaps a little more could be involved. But seriously, I'm not playing the game for it to become a MGS (metal gear solid) and stop in the middle of battle to start talking about old shit, that's why I play other games because that's how their mechanics work. There was enough plot driven characters and solid involvement and twists to keep me interested all throughout the game. Had I not been interested in the story I would have not haven liked it, or had an interest to continue on. The dialogue was great, and I felt there was enough, and even just a little more than what any of the previous RE had given me. I mean, seriously, look at Silent Hill, the game is acclaimed and loved by many for it's story and that game has the littlest dialogue I've ever seen in a game, in fact it makes me angry at times. I guess RE has to become less about dialogue and actual plot and become more psychological and nonsensical for it to be loved.

Let me just say, that I wish people would stop trying to transform the game into something else and just leave it be. That's why it's a Resident Evil, and not a MGS, or a FF, or a SH or whatever the fuck people want from it. The story in general seems to be the main issue here however. I admit, I think there could have been a little more, but that's not to say I didn't really enjoy what was there. It obviously drew me in enough for me to continue playing. I loved all the characters, and I loved the originality of it. Had everything been revealed in this game then there would be no reason for a RE5, it's called marketing, they draw you in enough and then make another one to rectify the problem. Regardless of which, people seem to be generally upset at the change in the game, and I suppose it's understandble since I know not everyone is fan of Leon, they would have liked to have seen their favorite characters star in the game. I'm not sure I'm really looking at that issue though, YES I'm a big big Leon fan and always have been, but I'm hardly going to say that any previous RE without Leon in it could have been better for this and that reason because he's not in it. I'm a lover of all the games (ehh..maybe cept CVX but I have my reasons for that..) and actually I never found myself having to knock the stories in any of the games previous to this. I just excepted what was there, it made me think about it, and I loved it. People complain "well there could have been more of this and that, and this game is stupid for that and this" okay so there could have been more story with Krauser and Leon, okay, yes, the ending could have been a little, okay so maybe this and that could have been added. But I really don't think people are really thinking of what's there, and if they put their imagination to it a little bit you can see beyond what was actually going on. And I think this is very repeated of previous RE's, just gotta go beyond whats there, use your imagination...hell, if you're THAT concerned about the plot being so sucky, then you can put your imagination to use. And if it was THAT bad, and zomg you can't live with the game because it lacks such an IN DEPTH omg non evangelion plot then why did you play it? Shit, it had to have been SOMEWHAT interested for you to finish it. And dear lord, I've heard this somewhere, RE4 is -NOT- a side story. Had it been a side story then there would be no plotline mover, and Umbrella wouldn't be rising again. I'm not sure where this concept came from, but it's completely off in every way. Umbrella died, and nothing was heard about it UNTIL Leon decides to go save the presidents daughter, these cultists make some fucked up new virus and Umbrella is thinking of rising again thanks to Wesker and how is he gonna do it? By the sample Saddler created...tell me how a plot mover such as that is a side story and I'll give you lot's of cookies. Every RE game had its quirks and its own individual story. I guess what I'm trying to convey is that I'm not sure why some people are being extremely picky about this story, but as I've said, I guess you can't please everyone.

Other issues are that of the changes. I just want to tell people to... ugh, yeah, I'm not even going to get into it. But for those who are really bothered by the change and new direction the game is going, they should just find another game to play...in fact just play some older games and call it quits. It's ridiculous how some people are bothered by the change, if anything, the new direction (as well as story) this game has gone in is refreshing and new. I wouldn't have it any other way. AHH NOE ZOMBIEZ AHHH!!1WHAT WILL I DOO!11 I hate to sound bitchy when it comes to this, but I can't believe some people really feel this way, especially after the game came out, OH WOW the living dead aren't walking around slowly trying to bite your necks off OH UM GEE I guess the RE series is DUMB NOW! Oh wow, did anyone actually stop to think that the Ganados of RE4 aren't too far off from zombies? Wow, so there's a twist on it, they're actually PEOPLE who are SMART who are trying to plot against you...personally it's much more threatening and scarier and wtf no other survival horror game has that concept so I don't know what everyone is complaining about. So many horror movies/games have reused the zombie idea, thank GOD RE is trying something new. The way it started off, zombies redefined survival horror, but how many fucking times do you want to see some flesh eating bitch slowing walking your way before you get bored? I mean, seriously, by RE0 I was getting just a TAD bored with moans and groans of the living dead trying to eat me. It's not a challenge, and I might as well just play RE2 over and over again because that game is amazing and it has zombies. The only thing I really love is when they try something new. Like with RE1 the remake, they put in the concept of Crimson Heads (zombies that come back to life after a period of time if you don't burn their bodies and will attack you faster and more visciously) I found them to be completely fucking scary! Let the zombies retire (unless they're crimson heads XD) and just let something new take place. If I had to play through RE4 with zombies I'd hit myself over the head and it wouldn't be half as scary. I love what Mikami san did, and I think him and his crew put some fucking amazing work into this game. I truly haven't been this excited playing a RE and a video game in a long time!

Yes, I know not everyone feels this way, and I wasn't directly attacking anyone. In fact, I'm not at all, I'm just defending something that kinda irked me about the attitude from the fans.
