A summary of the storyline in RE4, just the basic beginnings, some spoilers.

Six years after the virual outbreak in Raccoon City has passed. After, Umbrellas secrets and conspiracies were revealed to all, and was completely destroyed. Leon S. Kennedy, the protagonist from Resident Evil 2 is now a part of a top secret organization headed by non other than the President of The United States. His first mission however, is to rescue the President's Daughter, Ashley, who suddenly dissapeared on the way home from her college in Massachusetts. She has been spotted in a village in Europe, so Leon goes to investigate. Upon his arrival, he asks a local to help him with his search, but to no avail. The villager attacks Leon forcefully, attempting to kill him. Leon is left with no other choice than to kill him, and soon realizes that he is not welcome in his surroundings at all.

His transportation now destroyed, he is left alone to search for Ashley. And the villagers who attack Leon aren't normal villagers in the least, they seem almost superhuman. Perhaps some of these occurances have to do with the incidents in Raccoon City, the nightmare seems to be repeating itself in another form. Leon soon meets up with a local cop, Luis who is being held captive by the village. Leon is knocked out by the Village Chief, and both of them wind up captive, and without his knowledge, Leon is injected with what is known as the Las Plagas which has some connection to why the villagers are acting the way they are. Both Luis and Leon exchange meetings under their captive situation and both of them work together to escape their death. As Luis runs off, Leon continues his search for Ashley, which leads him to a not so desolate graveyard and church. Supposedly this is where she is being held.

Trying further to stop Leon in his tracks, Lord Osmund Saddler unleashes his lake monster known as Del Lago, to prevent him from gaining the key to the church. Defeating it, Leon collapses upon his arrival to land due to the effects of the las plagas. After a horrific dream, he awakens hours later and continues on, only to encounter another monster blockading his way, El Gigante. With the aid of a wolf-dog he helped earlier (optional) he fights his way through and destroys the beast. Eventually Leon rescues Ashley from the church, and informs her that he was sent by her father to assure her safety. As they are just about to leave, they are confronted by Lord Saddler. Much to their dislike, he explains his intentions for kidnapping Ashley, in that they plan to infect her and bring her back to the states where most likely she will go berserk and turn on everyone. The Las Plagas infects the host with a parasite, it hatches, and eventually takes over the host as it grows into an adult. With both Leon and Ashley infected they are at the mercy of Saddlers commands. In a attempt to escape, Leon grabs Ashley and jump out one of the church windows.

Though now Leon has Ashley they must find their way out of the village and find a cure for their infection. But nothing ever comes easy. I think I'll leave the summary at that much, you guys will just have to play to find out the rest. XD
